Product Description

The new Varilux Travel has an increased output, useful new features and the same car charging capability that made the original Varilux Travel so popular.

The Varilux Travel II R’s output is controlled via a magnetic induction switch. Pressing once switches the light on at full power – 1000 lumens’ worth. At this point, output can be gradually decreased by pressing and holding the switch. When the required output is reached, releasing the switch will maintain this output. Pressing once more switches the light off. Burn time at 1000 lumens is an impressive two hours. At the lowest setting of 80 lumens, burn time is 40 hours.

When the torch is in use, the ring around the switch emits a constant green light. When the torch is not in use, this light flashes once every 5 seconds. This is to help the user locate the torch when diving, for example in darkness or if it is dropped. Additionally, the light will turn red when approximately 20% of the battery’s charge is remaining. When the torch is stored after diving, the battery must be removed to ensure the power is cut off.

The Travel II R is supplied with an intelligent USB battery charger and an adapter for charging from a car power outlet. A rechargeable 26650 Li-ion battery is also supplied, along with a lanyard, a spare O-ring and a container of lubricant for the tail cap. This is the opening point to remove the battery for charging, and it’s sealed with two O-rings. The torch has a depth rating of 100 metres.

This torch is compatible with our new wrist mount. Click here to take a look.

  1. A great little torch

Posted by Chris Stafford on 15th Aug 2016

This is a review for the earlier version of the Varilux travel with the sliding magnetic switch.

I bought this torch for a trip to Truk and it performed well; it was used on almost every dive and recharged between dives.

The torch is small and light enough to fit in a BCD pocket and the varying light output lets you read your gauges at low power or illuminate an engine room at full power. The torch gives a nice tight hot spot.

Charging is via a removable end cap (double o-ringed) which means the battery never need to be removed.

When I had a slight problem with my torch Northern Diver sorted it out very quickly, even though the torch was almost two years old; first class customer service.
