Changing a Drysuit Pocket

1. Removing The Existing Pocket

 

With a pair of pliers pinch the corner of the drysuit pocket and firmly pull away from the suit. Hold the drysuit firmly with your other hand.

2. Removing The Existing Pocket

 

Once the corner has become free continue pulling the pocket with the pliers and holding down the drysuit with your other hand. The pocket should peel away fairly easily. Once a full side of the pocket is removed, let go of the pocket with the pliers.

3. Removing The Existing Pocket

 

Using a hand to hold the drysuit flat, use your other hand to firmly pull the pocket away from the body of the drysuit. Keep your palm close to the material that is being removed whilst pulling.

4. Removing The Existing Pocket

 

When the pocket is fully removed the drysuit will have the marks from the original pocket glue.

5. Adding the New Pocket

 

Place a paper template over the drysuit where the new pocket is to be attached. Mark around the inside and outside of the template using chalk.

Remove the paper template and the chalk marks should be clearly visible.

7. Preparation for Adding the New Pocket

 

Mix the neoprene glue and hardener Have a brush ready for applying.

8. Adding the New Pocket

 

Apply the glue (mixed with hardener) to the edges of the new pocket. Firmly support the underside with a hand when doing this and ensure that glue is applied only where required.

9. Adding the New Pocket

 

Apply the glue to the drysuit using the previously drawn chalk areas as a guide.

 

Allow glue to dry and perform steps 8 and 9 three times, leaving the glue tacky after third application.

Carefully hold the pocket prior to attaching.

Align the pocket with the drysuit and carefully press the edges of the pocket onto the glued area of the drysuit. Carefully align each part of the pocket until...

The pocket is applied completely. Firm finger pressure on the seam will lock the pocket onto the drysuit.

When the pocket has been completely attached firmly tap the join with a rubber mallet.

13. Job Completed

 

The pocket is now attached. Leave the suit for a short time while the glue hardens.
