Mechanical Engineer (Marine Engineer)

Northern Diver has been established for over 40 years. We manufacture a diverse range of diving equipment for military, commercial, offshore, sport and rescue applications worldwide.

We were awarded our first military contract over 10 years ago; we now hold several contracts worldwide and are the prime contractor to the British Ministry of Defence for diving equipment.

The key areas that we are involved in are explosive ordnance disposal (including non-magnetic systems), special operations, surface-supplied diving, salvage and contaminated water diving. To this end, our military product range is extensive.

We have seen year on year growth and have further exciting expansion plans in place, as a result we need to recruit a Mechanical Engineer with marine background to join our team.

In this role, as a Mechanical Marine Engineer, you will support the engineering team; designing, developing and engineering new products to add to our extensive diving equipment portfolio. From working on embargoed marine projects to advising on suitable components for tenders, no two days will be the same. You'll have the opportunity to manage your own projects, develop and help bring to market brand new inventions that support our customers and their needs.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Previous experience working with marine mechanical systems
  • Understanding of ship equipment and components (e.g. air, hydraulics, , pressure vessels, thrusters, heat exchangers, pumps, valves)
  • Fault-finding, repair and maintenance of marine petrol engines and propulsion systems
  • Project Management experience
  • Product development, research and development
  • Sourcing suitable components and materials when required
  • Liaise with internal departments such as sales, procurement and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances
  • To be responsible for your own health and safety and aware of other's health and safety in the workplace

 Knowledge & Skills required:

  • Proven mechanical design skills in marine engineering
  • Experience as an engineer within a manufacturing organisation are beneficial
  • Skilled in generating design calculations
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques
  • Good knowledge of gas and fluid systems
  • Good time management
  • Full UK Driving Licence

JOB TYPE: Full-time, Permanent

SALARY: Negotiable depending on experience

HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 5pm

LOCATION: Our Northern Diver HQ - Appley Bridge, WN6 9AE (near M6 – junction 27)
