Have bought 5 of these in the past and will buy again, here is an honest review of my experience, good and bad. Have used a pair of them head mounted on hundreds of dives, including trimix depths. Great torch underwater, sufficient light once your eyes accustom to the dark. Really long burn time without much drop of in brightness. Seams to run well on alkaline (duracell) or the rechargeable batteries that stay charged for a long time when not in use. Simple on/off switch, no messing with press for high/low/flash/sos etc Rectangular in cross section, so great for head mounting or any other mounting as it won't rotate, so the switch is always where you expect to find it with a gloved hand.. Light is white with a narrow beam, so penetrates well when there is poor visibility, with little back scatter. BUT some faults you need to be aware off. When replacing batteries it is easy to cross the fine threads that hold the torch together, One thread is plastic and one aluminium, so the plastic thread can be damaged, take care. 4 torches failed so far. The magnetic switches all failed after about 4 years, is that reasonable? Long before they fail the magnetic switch fails to return to its rest position. If you move it back then forth once you can switch it on/off. Rinsing it well after every dive and lubricating with WD40 helps, but they still fail. Suspect the magnet is not adequately coated to protect it from rust and/or not made from the best of materials so loses its magnetic strength leading to a full failure. Hope Northern diver improve the weakness, the last update was good, it gave more output without and I did not notice any reduction in burn time. However it still seams to have the thread and switch problem. (This review written May 2021)
Great main or back-up torch - very impressed

I bought this torch as a 'back-up' light for a trip to Chuuk Lagoon in December16/January17. I was so impressed with its performance that I ended up using it as my main light for several very deep penetration dives. It is just the right size for a BCD pocket or for a wrist lanyard, and is not heavy, but reassuringly 'chunky'. Very pleased with this purchase and would recommend - its rubber protective casing makes it ideal for a clumsy wreck diver!

Bought this torch some years ago and gave great service until the last time I went diving and while checking out my equipment noticed it was not working. Contacted Cara on service support who could not have been more helpful. Sent the torch back for repair and received it back in less than 48 hours. Amazing service! Couldn't ask for more. Many thanks!

...but more about Northern Diver the company. I bought a Fusion X2 a few years ago, and it packed up just before our recent diving holiday. I replaced it with a new X3, and after my holiday contacted Northern Diver. I could not find either receipt or warranty, but ND were brilliant, and replaced the switch without question. Thanks Cara and ND team! Superb customer service. And a great torch too.

Having owned loads of dive gear by ND, I wanted a good back up torch for UK diving and as a main when on holiday. This light is good enough as a main light source for here in the UK, let alone abroad. It has a good strong beam for those dark places you love to look into when on a wreck..... another great ND product!
